JDK LTS Release Use Cases: When is a Java migration advisable?

Some changes have been made between JDK 8 and later JDK versions. Each new Java SE version may contain minor binary, source and behavioral incompatibilities with previous versions. The modularization of the Java SE platform from JDK 9 onwards also brought changes, and in March 2025, JDK 24 was released. Code that uses only the official Java SE platform APIs and supported JDK-specific APIs should continue to work unchanged. Code that uses JDK internal APIs should continue to run, but this code should be migrated to use the supported APIs. Some APIs have been made inaccessible, removed or changed in their default behavior so that problems may occur when compiling or executing the Java application. The presentation will address concrete measures for the migration of Java applications, starting from JDK 8 via JDK 11 and JDK 17 to JDK 21, paired with migration project experiences taking into account the Java SE Migration Guide.Level:ExpertRate - Login requiredShareTags:
